"Evan,

I'll give you some background to save time. I have a 4-year-old AFC lab that has an Open win and an Open 2nd. He has just started popping on marks. I can't figure out why. I need your help with some drills to stop it. It cost us an Amateur win last weekend. I have Smartwork and Smartwork II as well as your Water Force and all three Transition DVD’s. Obviously I am a disciple of yours. HELP!!!"

"Evan

Thanks for the advice, I followed your advice and it cleaned things up in a couple of sessions.  I am amazed at the reaction you get from the dog with this program, they know what to do to turn of the pressure.  Their understanding is amazing, which makes them more willing.  I appreciate your help and I am sure I will have another question for you soon.

It may be. It's hard for me to assess without seeing her work. Some dogs just don't like blinds, but they're somewhat rare.

Not at all. You cannot effectively increase style in the long run with pressure. Style is a result of desire and a fair presentation of training. No matter how fair you may be, the dog has a degree of style that is determined by nature.

noticed and am encouraged that the KRD drill has helped her enthusiasm some.

Your thoughts?

Those are exactly the drills I would choose. Add to that a healthy mix of marks, and see what time produces. Good luck.

Quick update:

I ran my girl in Seasoned at the Lonesome Dove test a couple weeks ago. Smashed the test Saturday and then made the jump to Finished on Sunday. (I have been training at that level for five to six months now.) She was one of only ten dogs out of 28 that passed! Her blind work that used to be her weakness has now become her strength! Her increased enthusiasm and teamwork is noticeable and has impressed those who have followed her.

She (and I) apparently needed time and patience.

Thanks again for your encouragement and especially for making Smartwork available to us amateurs. I have given your program as the reason to all who ask in regards to the success Roxy and I have had. 100% amateur. (Felt great to run with the pros on Sunday.)

Danno
